Lake Garda is surrounded by mountains of all sizes, offering countless views. You just need to climb a few hundred meters, on foot or using one of the ultra-modern cableways, to enjoy breathtaking scenery. Here we wish to share with you five of the most famous viewpoints around the lake. You can easily visit them all from RIVA DEL GARDA, during your stay at the Astoria Resort.

Bastione

Located on the slopes of Mount Rocchetta, at two hundred meters above sea level, the Bastione is one of the symbols of Riva del Garda. It was built in the early 16th century to protect the village below, and destroyed in 1703 by French troops led by General Vendome. It can be easily reached following the path that climbs upwards through the vegetation, or using the brand-new inclined lift that connects it with the historic center of Riva.

Punta Larici

Punta Larici is one of the best-known and most visited viewpoints over Lake Garda, and it can be reached with a 90-minute walk from the village of Pregasina. The entire route is shaded, and can be tackled easily even in the summer months. Once you make it to the top, you can let your gaze travel from the far north of the lake, with the towns of Riva del Garda and Torbole, to the south, where the lake begins to widen.

Monte Baldo

Standing tall at 2200 m above sea level, Monte Baldo is the highest mountain on Lake Garda. At higher altitudes, you will find typical Alpine vegetation; further down, you’ll find lush olive groves and Mediterranean plants. To climb to the top, you can use the panoramic cable car. It is open 10 months a year, and in just 15 minutes it takes you from Malcesine to Tratto Spino, at an altitude of 1,760 meters. The cableway is made up of two sections, with an intermediate station in San Michele. During the second section, the cabin makes a complete 360-degree turn, allowing you to enjoy a priceless view over the lake and mountains.

Pieve of Tremosine

Pieve di Tremosine, located in the Brescia province, is one of the most beautiful places around Lake Garda, part of ‘I Borghi più Belli d’Italia - The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy’ register for several years. The town is located at 414 meters above sea level, on a natural terrace overlooking the lake. In the historic centre you’ll find several scenic viewpoints – make sure you check out the one near Locanda Al Castelletto, the balcony of the Miralago Hotel Restaurant, or even the famous Terrazza del Brivido.

Rocca of Manerba

The Rocca di Manerba is located on a rock spur overlooking the lake. It is part of the nature reserve of the same name, an open-air museum that retraces the history of the area. You can reach the fortress following the path that crosses the park, and then climb up to the ruins of the castle. From there, it is possible to enjoy views over the southern part of Lake Garda - from Sirmione to Toscolano Maderno, from Bardolino to Salò.
